UFC Nashville is in the books, and there’s potentially a new heavyweight contender to challenge the recently crowned champ, Tom Aspinall. His name is Derrick Lewis, and he loves taking his shorts off after knocking his opponents out cold.
Lewis defeated undefeated heavyweight prospect Tallison Teixeira via first-round TKO to cap off a surprisingly good fight night card which most fans weren’t too hyped for going into Saturday night.
Now with Lewis back in the win column and already being one of the biggest fan favorites in the sport, there’s a real path for him to get another crack at the belt. It won’t be next, though, as Tom Aspinall recently said that he has a date and opponent that he’s training for, which most fans speculate is former interim champion Cyril Gane.
Who knows what happens after that fight, though? In a heavyweight division that’s not in the best shape right now, there’s an argument for Derrick Lewis to get a shot next due to his popularity, the fact that he hasn’t fought Aspinall yet, and cause Aspinall’s goal is to beat everyone in the top ten of the division, which he’s halfway through doing already.
While it probably won’t happen this year, don’t be surprised if the UFC decides to go with Lewis for a heavyweight title shot in 2026.
